The Synod on Synodality is a “Kairos moment” for all the baptized, says the Local Ordinary of Kokstad Diocese.
In an interview with the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC) communications office prior to his departure to Rome, Bishop Thulani Mbuyisa said the Synod “is an opportunity, a grace moment for all of us in the church to actually listen to one another, to dialogue with one another and even more importantly, to listen to the Holy Spirit.”
The SACBC delegate for the Synod 2023/2024 went on to say he believes the Synod “is a Kairos moment for us, as the church today” and called on the people of God to “pray for this synod that indeed all of us may descend the will of the spirit for us.”
Representing the SACBC at the October 4-29 Synod in Rome are Archbishop Dabula Mpako of Pretoria Archdiocese, Bishop Thulani Mbuyisa of Kokstad Diocese, and Sheila Pires.
For Archbishop Mpako the Instrumentum Laboris (working document) for the Synod Assembly “beautifully weaves together the outcomes” of the African continental synthesis.
The SACBC “welcomes this document (Instrumentum Laboris) with gratitude and appreciation because first of all it is well put together and it builds faithfully upon the outcomes of the consultation phases that took place at the diocesan, national, and continental level,” says Archbishop Mpako.
