SACBC shares Lenten Appeal contributions for 2024 and 2025

The Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC) has informed the Church of the Lenten Appeal contributions for the years 2024 and 2025 through a newsletter signed by the Secretary General, Fr Hugh O’Connor. The communication forms part of the Church’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the life of a Synodal Church.
In the Church in Southern Africa, it is a long-standing tradition to hold a second collection on each Sunday of Lent. These collections support projects for the poor, the works of the Church, and the formation and support of seminarians.
In 2025, the Lenten Appeal collections totalled just over R9.9 million, representing a 4% increase from 2024.
Throughout the Lenten season, the Bishops’ Lenten Appeal also produces daily reflections offered by bishops, clergy, and religious from the three member countries of the SACBC: South Africa, Botswana, and Eswatini.
