As preparations continue for the upcoming International Symposium on Global Justice and Solidarity, Cardinal Michael Czerny, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, has extended his support through a special video message to participants.
The symposium under the theme ‘Global Justice and Africa’s G20 Priorities – linking moral vision with policy strategy’, which will take place from June 23–24, 2025, in Cape Town, is hosted by the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) in partnership with the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network–Africa (JENA), the Global Justice Programme at Yale University, Academics Stand Against Poverty, and the University of Cape Town.
With a particular focus on Africa, the symposium aims to deepen reflection and advocacy around global justice, solidarity, and the Church’s role in shaping inclusive economic and social policies.
In his video message, Cardinal Czerny emphasizes the importance of Gospel witness in a fractured world:
“In a world facing what Pope Francis called a ‘third world war fought piecemeal,’ it is vital that the Church bears witness to the Gospel through dialogue, solidarity, and fraternity.”
He concludes with a prayerful encouragement:
“May the fruits of your symposium become seeds that help bring about the Kingdom of God on earth. Amen.”
The SACBC Communication Office is producing a series of short videos, including Cardinal Czerny’s message, to promote the event and engage a broader audience in the conversation.
