Women in Prayer – South Africa
Women’s World Day of Prayer (WWDP) 2019 to intercede for Republic of Slovenia
The Republic of Slovenia, a Country in Central Europe, is the recipient Country for prayer intercession in 2019 by Christian Lay Women throughout the world. Radio Veritas and Radio Pulpit, both in South Africa, are inviting women from all walks of life to join in the event to pray for peace and justice in Slovenia and South Africa on the 2nd March 2019, starting from 9am. The event will be held at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Moroka- Soweto.
This interdenominational setting will see women joining hands, praying together, giving physical support locally to women in need of it, providing spiritual upliftment and intercession for the Republic of Slovenia and South Africa. The Country’s theme; based on the gospel of Luke 14: 15 – 24 is taking us back to God’s invitation to His children with love:
‘Come – Everything Is Ready’. In this invitation episode many who attended the banquet were among those who were least expected to attend and those most expected to be there were among those who were excluded.
In v.12 Jesus says to His host, “When you give a banquet, don’t go about simply inviting the kind of people whom you know will invite you back”, a lesson that you should not invite the people from whom you might gain some advantages later. In other words, you don’t give in order to harvest something in return. Why not? Because it is a selfish way of giving to others and it is a seeking of an immediate reward in this present life. The end result is that you will not get a reward from God. Instead, you may receive favors only from those who can return your favors.
In vv. 13-14 Jesus instructed the man, “Invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind”. This is because they do not have the means to repay. In Israel, these were obviously the poor of the society; the people who, because of their physical disabilities, could not work; therefore could not earn a salary. Most of them depended on charity to survive. Why should you invite them? Precisely because they need more your help but they can’t repay you back. This is the exact opposite of the worldly way of thinking – you scratch my back and I will scratch yours.
There is none more powerful, nor more beautiful than a praying woman. A Prayer Warrior!
The World Women’s Day of Prayer has been active in SA for the past 88 years; calling women to be conscious of the needs of others and selfless in praying for them.
The attendance for prayer day grows each year. In 2015 about 350 women came to the event, while last year we saw about 3 000 women who had gathered for this prayer event. The event has become more important as more women are exposed to the needs of others and see the importance of reaching out to them.
Mahadi Buthelezi of Radio Veritas, South Africa says, “For Radio Veritas South Africa and Radio Pulpit, going out to the community, actively working with it, listening to the people and hugging them – in reality loving thy neighbor, is the main reason why they are committed in doing this event together”.
“The event has been successfully held in the past three years in Pretoria and Johannesburg. Seeing the healing as well as the mind-set change from the women attending the day is worth every effort the team puts together to make this a reality”, concluded Ayanda Nenemba of Radio Pulpit .
