Blessed Gérard’s Care Centre (BGCC) is looking for a Counselling Psychologist for the Children’s Home (CYCC) and Hospice. The closing date for applications is May 19, 2023. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Zulu and English speaking
• A Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at NQF level 9.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), in the category of Counselling Psychology would be advantageous.
• Experience in a Child and Youth Care setting, or in working with children, adolescents and young adults, and involvement in child and youth care life activities or initiatives would be greatly advantageous. 
• A valid driver’s licence is essential.

• Certified copies (not older than 3 months) of qualifications (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications);
• A certified copy (not older than 3 months) of your identity document (ID);
• Proof of registration with a Professional Body (if applicable);

• A service record of your current employer / last employer if you are currently employed or have a last employer.

The Candidate Should be:

• Emotionally sensitive with excellent problem-solving skills 
• Able to engage children with the goal of healing from trauma and correcting possible behavioural issues
• Willing to engage and interact with children at their level, through the use of play therapy etc. 

Job Outline/Scope of Work:

• Provide necessary counselling to children placed in Blessed Gérard’s Children’s Home (BGCH).
• Identify, diagnose, and treat the trauma and psychological problems of the children and youth of BGCH in collaboration with BGCH management and personnel. 
• Perform psychological screening and first level interventions aimed at enhancing the functioning of children/youth placed at BGCH.
• Conduct psychometric assessments as needed and provide one-on-one and/or group counselling. 
• Schedule and implement medium to long-term counselling plans as per assessment. 
• Maintain detailed records and reports of work done (Portfolio of Evidence)
• Liaise with BGCH Management Team and other childcare stakeholders when required.
• Align with and participate in the goals and objectives of BGCH and BGCC.
