“On the 30th of September Pope Francis will confer the
cardinalate upon 21 new cardinals at St Peters in Rome.
Amongst them will be Archbishop Stephen Brislin of the
Archdiocese of Cape Town. The Pope does this at a meeting
called a Consistory which is a formal meeting of the College
of Cardinals. At the consistory for the creation of cardinals,
the Pope creates the new cardinals in the presence of a
number, if not all, of the cardinals, ” SACBC Secretary General Fr Hugh O’Connor
