The Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC), within the Department of Social Action, organized a committee to collect the reports of Covid-19 responses from all of theorganizations, and dioceses that contributed towards the relief of the thousands of poor, needy, vulnerable and desperate men, women and children as a result of the effects of the pandemic.
We extend our gratitude to His Eminence Cardinal Wilfrid Napier OFM, Archbishop Buti Tlhagale OMI, Bishop Sithembele Sipuka, and Bishop Victor Phalana for their insights, encouragement, support and leadership in undertaking to bring “hope-in-action” in alleviating the devastation brought on through Covid-19. A special mention to Sr.
Hermenegild Makoro CPS and her team, for their invaluable assistance and motivation of all the Secretariat during this very critical time of the global pandemic.
We also give thanks and pay tribute to all our donors, benefactors, and Agencies whose service of charity gave selflessly and generously during the lockdown in making a difference to the lives of those in desperate need. All these “partnerships” who, though of many parts, have made it abundantly clear that “the response of the Church not only
enabled the most vulnerable to survive physically–it also restored hope, and showed
them that God had not abandoned them”.
