Pope Francis’ Apostolic Visit to Iraq

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, will carry out his Apostolic Visit to Iraq from the 5th to the 8th of March. According to the programme of the visit the Pope will leave Rome at 7:30 in the morning and arrive in Baghdad at 14:00 in the afternoon.

In Iraq among other things the Pope will meet with the President of Iraq and other civil authorities. A meeting is also scheduled with the bishops, priests, religious, consecrated persons, seminarians and catechists. No celebration of public Mass is mentioned on the first day.

On the second day the Pope will go to Najaf and Nassiriya. It is at this latter place that he will have an interreligious meeting. He will celebrate Holy Mass at the Chaldean Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Baghdad.

On the third day the Pope will visit Erbil, Mosul, and Qaraqosh. In Mosul there will be a PRAYER OF SUFFRAGE FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE WAR at Hosh al-Bieaa (Church square). The Holy Mass will be celebrated at the Franso Hariri Stadium in Erbil.

The Holy Father will leave Iraq on the 8th of March at 9:40 in the morning to arrive in Rome at 12:55 in the afternoon.
