Notre Dame University Host Catholic Leadership Program
The University of Notre Dame hosted 46 Catholic Organisations Leaders from all over the world. The representative members were selected to attend the 9th Annual Leadership Certificate Program from 7-14 July. The attendees were from more than 20 countries of North America, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
The Sponsorship of the program was through a collaboration between Nonprofit Certificate Education in the Mendoza College of Business and the Nanovic Institute for European Studies in the Keough School of Global Affairs.
It was an eight-day program designed to give Catholic leaders a deeper understanding of their role in their organizations and their responsibilities to their subordinates and colleagues.
Top experts and Notre Dame faculty committed themselves in educating the attendees on topics important to effectively lead non-profit making Catholic organizations, such as organizational evaluation, fund development, people-centered leadership, strengths based leadership, culture and mission, strategic planning, negotiation, fundraising and leveraging polarities.
This program is part of the University of Notre Dame’s commitment to support the mission and work of Catholic institutions around the world. Each year fellowships are offered to professionals in Catholic organizations that cover 95% of the $5,000 registration fee.
From the Southern Africa Catholic Bishops’ Conference region Sr Hermenegild Makoro, the SACBC Secretary General and Fr Patrick Rakeketsi, the SACBC Associate Secretary General, both attended the program. They were also joined by Bishops John Tlhomola from Lesotho Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Bishop of the Diocese of Mohale’s Hoek.
Upon their come back, both Sr Makoro and Fr Rakeketsi expressed their appreciation and happiness of the opportunity of attending such eye opening and empowering program. They shared their wonderful experiences and the knowledge they have acquired during the program with the SACBC staff and Bishops. They also shared their personal experiences about the wonderful works of the church in America, and how the church has succeeded in building the projects which are helping the American church to be self-sustained.
