Sr. Helena Amwaandangi, MSC has been appointed as the new Secretary-General for the Namibian Catholic Bishops Conference (NCBC). The 63-year-old replaces Fr. Linus Ngenomesho, O.M.I. who was appointed as the apostolic administrator Sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Vicariate Apostolic of Rundu.
Sr. Helena is a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology (BTH), Diploma in Clinical Pastoral Education, and a Diploma in International Leadership Development.
Between 1974 and 1980 she worked as a Secretary at St. Theresia Parish, Oshikuku. She has held several posts within her Congregation and below is a chronicle of her service in the ministry:
1990 – 1994 Director of the Sisters in Temporary Profession
1993 – 1994 Spiritual Director and Coordinator of the Youth on Diocesan Level
1994 – 2002 Provincial Superior of the MSC Namibian Province. The first Namibian to serve in this capacity
1998 – 2002 Coordinator of the Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of Windhoek
At General Chapter in 2002 elected as General Councilor
2002-2008 Congregational Councilor in Sutri, Rome
2002-2014 Coordinator of JPIC on Congregational Level
2008 At General chapter re-elected as General Councilor
2008- 2014 Congregational Councilor in Sutri, Rome
2008- 2014 Coordinator of Formation within the entire Congregation
2015 A Sabbatical Year at St. Anselm Institute in Kent, UK
2016-2019 Novice Director of MSC Formation House in Otjiwarongo, in Namibia
2020 Administrator of MSC Central House in Mariental
Sr. Helena, born on the 12th of April 1957, hails from Oshikuku, in Namibia.
