The Justice and Peace Commission (JP) has published a Voter Education Manual ahead of the general elections to be held in South Africa in 2024.
According to the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC) JP Commission, the purpose of the manual is to “provide general information and guidance on the electoral process in South Africa.”
The 18-page manual also highlights the Catholic Social Teaching concerning democracy and voting rights. At the end of their annual August plenary session held in Mariannhill Diocese, members of the SACBC called on eligible voters to “remember that (they) are responsible for the direction” and future of the country.
In addition to the Voter Education Manual, the JP Commission has also published prayer intercessions in nine official languages and asks all people of God to recite the prayers as the nation heads to the polls in 2024.
