Indications regarding the Exposition and the Funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

The remains of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will rest at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery until the early morning of Monday 2 January; no official visits or public prayers are foreseen.

On the same day, starting at 9am, the body will be exposed for the visit of the faithful in St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Basilica will be open on Monday from 9am to 7pm, Tuesday and Wednesday from 7am to 7pm.

The funeral presided over by the Holy Father will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Square on Thursday 5 January at 9.30. Tickets are not required for participation. Those who wish to concelebrate can contact the Office for Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff (cf. Notification of 31 December 2022).
