Members of the ecumenical community joined forces on Friday, June 23 to assist the poor living in informal settlements in the south of Johannesburg.
The Coordinator of the Ecumenism Department of the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC) together with the Parish Priest of Martindale Catholic Church and Pastors from the Dutch Reform Church and New Hope Church handed out blankets and soup to the homeless in Westbury, Mayfair, and Joe Slovo informal settlements.
In his reflection, Fr Bonaventure Mashata says the ecumenical outreach was an opportunity to experience “the missionary zeal of the needy,” that despite life’s situations “the poor do evangelise us.”
